DISPOL ASKS FOR INTERVENTION

Thaba Tseka July 03 – The Dispol in Thaba Tseka has requested the District Administrator’s office to intervene in a conflict affecting livestock farmers.

Superintendent Karabo Morapeli stated during the HOD meeting that livestock farmers have been urged to stay closer to home to avoid being trapped in distant paddocks.

He said recently, there was a conflict regarding livestock that had been allowed to graze in the Malibamatso area.

Community councillors detained the animals, claiming they were grazing on reserved “qokoa,” which is used for roofing mud houses..

He stated that this occurred even with permission from local authorities, adding that it might lead to conflicts endangering people’s lives.

He mentioned that it creates confusion for them because their role is to enforce the law. However, situations like this need to be handled differently; they cannot expect livestock to stay in paddocks far from home when the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) has advised everyone to prioritize safety.
