FACTORY WORKERS SAY NO TO NEW BILL

Maseru, Oct. 05 — The factory workers through their associations have raised concerns over the Labor Code of 2003, amended 2023.

Speaking at the meeting held at Thetsane, one of the workers’ representatives Mr. Khethang Machaea stated that the amended Code does not respond to their work challenges but rather discourages them.

He said the government through the Ministry of Labour and Employment should be working on the issue of securing jobs for factory workers, and not fight them.

On the same note, Mr. Kobeli Kobeli indicated that the Code interfered with their wages, saying the old Labour Code Order of 1992 Section 117 stated that factory workers will work for eight hours being the normal working workers, and once a worker works over eight hours, he or she gets paid overtime.
