Maseru, Jan. 19 — Magistrate Lebusa Ts’osane on Monday denied bail to Motlalepula Jacob, a senior probation officer at the Magistrate’s Court, due to lack of exceptional circumstances.
He said the nature of the offence, being a contravention of Section 68(2), is a serious offence and appears as a high scheduled offence.
As a result, bail cannot be granted unless those exceptional circumstances are fully outlined.
The said accused is charged with contravening Section 68 read with Section 109 of the Penal Code Act No. 6 of 2010.
Jacob on January 15, 2026, at the Magistrate Court in the district of Maseru, did deliberately make to another a false representation or conceal from another a fact which, by the circumstances, he had a duty to reveal, with the intention that such person should act upon the representation to his or her detriment.
The said accused represented to one Lesira Rampa that he would help her to get employed at the public service if she paid him M7000 whereas he knew there was no such employment.
As a result, Lesira reported the matter at the DCEO and was given M7000 worth of DCEO trap money which she delivered together with copies of her education certificates to the accused person.
The accused was therefore remanded in custody until February 02, 2026
