GOVERNMENT CONVEYS CONDOLENCES

Maseru, Feb.05—The government of Lesotho has conveyed deepest condolences to the families of deceased persons who were involved in a tragic incident where a taxi was ambushed by armed attackers on the R59 near Meyerton on Tuesday.

Six Basotho died during the incident and four are women while two are men and 18 survivors sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving medical treatment in hospital.

According to the statement issued by the government, it assured the nation that it is working closely with South African law enforcement agencies while investigations are continuing.

It added that the country’s consulate in Johannesburg is actively involved through providing support, collaborating with relevant authorities and helping affected families.

The government further wishes speedy recovery to all those injured.

Moreover, the government appealed to the public to remain calm and to avoid speculations as verified information will be shared once available.

Meanwhile investigations are continuing and six counts of murder, 18 counts of attempted murder, carjacking and possession of hijacked motor vehicle have been opened.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
