GOVERNMENT MANAGES WASTE THROUGH PLASTIC LEVY

Maseru, March. 13 – The Minister of Environment and Forestry, Mr. Letsema Adonts’i expressed the government’s commitment in managing waste through plastic levy regulations.

He said this during a question-and-answer session in the National Assembly on Thursday, where he was asked in line with question 715 to shed light to the House on administration of plastic levy.

Talking to the administrative part of the question, he alluded that the Ministry together with Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), for implementation of a new plastic levy.

He added RSL is to collect the revenue of which it will later be injected into the environment fund for the purposes of curbing climate change and its effect, pollution as well as managing waste crisis currently facing the country.

Minister Adonts’i stated that the said collection will further be used to intensify efforts meant to inform and educate the society through media and public gathering on the need to eliminate plastic use and resort to reusable bags. . .
