Maseru, July 11 — The Officer Commanding Maseru Central Correctional Institution (MCCI) Assistant Commissioner Tsoto Manaka says an inmate has a motive to tarnish his image as everything he said about him is not true.
These he said when cross examining this inmate, Mr Sihle Sekants’i who is alleged to be lenomoro after he implicated Manaka when testifying before the Commission Of Inquiry on the escape of inmates, on incidents of December 22 last year.
An inmate told the Commission that MCCI Commander failed to protect him and other inmates when they were assaulted and discriminated against and hates him as a person amongst others.
Assistant Commissioner Manaka said the inmate must have prepared himself to tarnish his image as he is unhappy for being kept in block D where he is unable to see other inmates.
He said Sekants’i was placed in block D with some inmates to separate them from other inmates due to the fact that they are dangerous, not as a punishment.
“Where were you when you inverted these stories about me ” he asked?
He added that the commission should reject whatever Mr. Sekants’i said about him including when he said he threatened inmates who would testify before the Commission.
He also said he was not friends with an inmate by the name of Majara as Sekants’i alleged, saying he only came in contact with Majara when he stole the beans.
However, Mr. Sekants’i insisted that he was telling the truth about Assistant Commissioner Manaka saying the latter does not approach inmates properly and has been punishing him since 2021 after he engaged in a fight with Majara whom the Assistant Commissioner loved.
Meanwhile Assistant Commissioner Manaka is due to give evidence and make submissions on this matter.
