Maseru, Apr. 15 — A case in which Jane Lekunya, a Member of Parliament for Mechachane and his wife Makhoase Lekunya are seeking to block their prosecution has on Tuesday failed to proceed before the High Court sitting as the Constitutional Court.
The court was told that the matter is not ready for hearing as the applicants are yet to file a reply and the respondents file their heads of arguments after receiving the reply. It was further told that Advocate Motiea Teele (KC) will be the one to argue the matter on behalf of the applicants but he was not before court as he reportedly did not receive information that the matter was scheduled to proceed.
A judge presiding over the matter Chief Justice Sakoane Sakoane who is in this matter assisted by Justices Maliepollo Makhetha and Itumeleng Shale had issued a directive that the case be consolidated with one in which eight police officers are also seeking to block their prosecution and that they be heard together.
The matter was postponed to a date yet to be selected. MM/TL
