Thaba Tseka, Sept. 15 — Lesotho is one of the 85 countries that have mandated the fortification of wheat and one of the 16 countries that have mandated the fortification of maize meal.
This was stated by Ms. Nteboheleng Mothae, Regional Coordinator, Food and Nutrition Coordinating Office (FNCO), who indicated that the country has not mandated oil fortification and rice fortification.
She added that mandatory fortification of maize and wheat flour was introduced in 2020.
Ms. Mothae also stated that the mandatory fortification of salt was introduced in 1999, followed by the fortification of beans (Nua 45) and micronutrient powder for children aged 6-23 months in 2020.
