Berea, Aug. 04 — Residents of Ha Lenea are expected to have easier access to healthcare services following the ongoing rehabilitation of the ‘Mamathe to Mahlatsa road, which their community leader says has been a long-standing priority for the area.
Speaking in an interview with the Agency, Ha Lenea Chief, Chief Mojela Lenea said the project has brought relief to residents as it addresses a long-standing concern.
He noted that the road will particularly benefit residents of Upper Ha Lenea who travel to Mahlatsa Health Centre to access healthcare services.
He, however, appealed for attention to the road serving Lower Ha Lenea, saying the village is divided into two sections and residents of the lower part continue to use a deteriorating road that falls under the responsibility of the local council.
He noted that although the road is within the village, it is an important route used by residents to access health services at St. David.
Chief Lenea also highlighted the lack of water as another pressing challenge facing the community, saying taps installed in Upper Ha Lenea are no longer supplying water, forcing residents to struggle to access the resource.
Despite these challenges, he said Ha Lenea remains a peaceful village with no reported criminal activities.
The ‘Mamathe to Mahlatsa road rehabilitation project is expected to improve access to essential services, including healthcare, education and markets, while enhancing connectivity and supporting socio-economic development for communities along the route.
