LESOTHO CAN PRODUCE POULTRY

Maseru, Nov. 20 — Economist Lecturer at the National University of Lesotho (NUL), Dr. Machema Ratjomose says Lesotho or local producers have the capacity to go commercial in poultry production.

He said that investment in the poultry production needs a boost which he said goes together with creating a conducive environment in terms of market so that they are able to compete with South Africa and other countries.

For over a month now, importation of all poultry has been banned due to birds’ flu outbreak in South Africa. This has caused some restaurants using chicken to close doors in the country while retail shops also do not have chicken meat especially because they get supply from the neighbouring country.
