Maseru, Apr. 18 — Lesotho is considering a significant step towards reclaiming ownership of a cultural symbol deeply embedded in Basotho heritage by contemplating the establishment of a domestic blanket manufacturing firm.
Despite the long-standing closeness of Basotho for the blanket, it has never been produced within the country’s borders.
This initiative aligns with the Nanabolele Blanket Exhibition scheduled for October, preceding the relaunch of the Morija Art and Cultural Festival 2024 Edition (MACUFE), marking Lesotho’s Independence and 200 years of history.
Mr. Pokello Mahlomola, the Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Tourism, Sports, Arts, and Culture, indicated that this initiative aims to tackle unemployment while reinstating Lesotho’s pride in its cultural heritage.
