Maseru, Feb. 13 — Liteboho Lebese, a 22 year-old member of the World Vision Lesotho youth parliament, is calling on the Lesotho government to prioritize the needs of homeless children in its disaster preparedness strategy.
She argues that this vulnerable population was overlooked during the COVID-19 prevention planning and must be included in future initiatives.
Speaking passionately about the issue, Ms. Lebese emphasized the heightened vulnerability of homeless children during emergencies.
“Homeless children often lack access to basic necessities like shelter, food, and healthcare, making them particularly susceptible to the impacts of disasters,” Lebese stated. “It is imperative that the government recognizes their unique needs and ensures their safety and well-being in times of crisis,” she said…
