MASERU – Magistrate Lebusa Tsosane on Wednesday sentenced 40-year-old Rets’elisitsoe Sepepana of Lithabaneng in the district of Maseru, after finding him guilty of aggravated assault.
The court ordered Sepepana to pay a fine of M6, 000 or serve six years’ imprisonment.
The court heard that on February 18, 2026, Sepepana unlawfully and intentionally assaulted Mateboho Ramoloi (30) by beating her with a stick, inflicting serious injuries that could have resulted in permanent disability.
Ramoloi, who testified as the first prosecution witness (PW1), told the court that she met the accused near Mahlabatheng on the day of the incident. She said they began talking when Sepepana accused her of embarrassing him by being involved with another man.
She further testified that the accused was carrying a gun and a knife and threatened to kill her. Ramoloi said Sepepana then assaulted her with a stick, causing injuries that required medical treatment at Queen ‘Mamohato Memorial Hospital and after being discharged, she reported the matter to the police.
Sepepana told the court that he had lived with Ramoloi for eight years as husband and wife before they separated in January 2026. He said he had confronted her about text messages he had received from another man claiming to be in a relationship with her.
The accused informed the court that he is responsible for two children and that his 18-year-old child is ill.
Magistrate Ts’osane sentenced Sepepana to pay a fine of M6, 000 or serve six years in prison.
