MAIME CHILD PROTECTION TEAM CALL FOR EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

Berea, Oct 12 — As the world observes International Girl Child Day, Maime Community Council Child Protection Team (CCCPT) said there is still more to be done in order to promote equal access to opportunities for girls, especially for those living in remote areas.

Maime CCCPT member Mr. Matee Thamae made the remarks during the CCCPT campaign to recognise the importance of girls held on Wednesday and celebrated under a theme, “Invest in girl’s rights: Our leadership, our well-being”.

Mr. Thamae said they are living in disadvantaged places with poor access to services which among other includes education and development activities.

He pointed out that due to the lack of secondary or high schools nearby, the career of most girls normally ends upon completing grade seven, therefore they become prone to abuse cases like being dragged into early marriages at the age of 16.
