Berea, August 28 – In celebration of Oral Health Week, Maluti Adventist Hospital, in collaboration with Berea Hospital, hosted an outreach event for Ha Arone residents in Mapoteng on Thursday.
The event aimed at raising awareness about the vital connection between oral health and mental well-being, under the theme “Good Oral Health, Good Mental Health.”

Oral Hygienist Mrs. Malineo Motšoloane emphasized the impact of poor oral hygiene on mental health.
“Neglecting your teeth and gums can lead to pain, embarrassment, and even depression. When someone feels ashamed of their smile, they may isolate themselves, which adds to emotional distress,” she said.

She outlined several common dental issues such as gum swelling, bleeding, and toothaches—all of which, she explained, can interfere with daily life and cause a decline in mental wellness. She also demonstrated proper tooth brushing techniques and encouraged daily oral hygiene practices. . . .
