Maseru, Oct. 15—The remains of the late Tito Mboweni will be laid to their final resting place at his home in Tzaneen on Saturday.
He is reported to have died on Saturday in a Johannesburg hospital at the age of 65, after a short illness.
Mboweni who became the eighth Governor of the South Africa (SA) Reserve Bank and the first black person to hold the position served as Finance Minister following the resignation of then minister Nhlanhla Nene.
He helped in steading the SA economy through introduction of monetary policies such as inflation targeting.
Born on March 16, 1959, in Tzaneen, Limpopo, Mboweni left South Africa in 1980 to join the anti-apartheid struggle in Lesotho, crossing the border without a passport.
Mboweni was known for his sharp intellect, humour, and outspoken nature, but as his lecturers would say, he was a determined and committed person to the liberation movement.
