Maseru, June 24 – Prime Minister Sam Matekane’s official trip to Brussels and Spain has been abruptly cancelled due to escalating conflict in the Middle East.
The Prime Minister, who departed from Lesotho on Monday was forced to return home while still at OR Tambo International Airport after air routes through Qatar were confirmed not safe.
According to Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Lejone Mpotjoane, the Prime Minister was initially scheduled to attend a series of meetings in Brussels on health-related matters.


He was also slated to participate in the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development in Spain.
However, the closure of key air routes due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East rendered travel to Europe impossible.
The Minister Mpotjoane explained, “The Prime Minister had to make the difficult decision to return home after we were informed that the Qatar flight path was no longer viable due to the intensifying war situation.” . . .
