QACHA’S NEK — Faced with collapsing, cold classrooms, destroyed toilets, and dust-filled learning spaces, Moeti Primary School has turned to crowdfunding in a desperate bid to save its crumbling infrastructure before the windy season worsens the situation.
Located in Ha Mosuoe, about 25 km from the Qacha’s Nek District Education Office, the Catholic church-owned school is on the verge of collapse. Its buildings, some of them round huts, are in a deplorable state. Doors and windows are broken, the roofing is damaged, and pupils are exposed to cold air and dust.

The school serves children from Grade 1 to 7, but enrollment has steadily declined in recent years as parents opt for better-equipped schools nearby.
In an interview with the Agency, Principal Molula Koele, who was appointed in May this year, says the environment is simply not fit for learning.
“The situation is unacceptable. The cold is unbearable, and the environment is not conducive for learning at all,” she said. “That’s why we’re pleading with everyone to help change it.”

She added that the situation is especially harsh on young children.
“We are talking about fragile people. Imagine learning in a cold classroom and growing up with that coldness.”. . .
