Speaking in an interview, Mrs. ‘Mamakoetje Lephoto said seeing construction materials being delivered at the site has brought hope saying she believes the construction will start soon.
She said they have been struggling especially during rainy season as the river gets full.
On the other hand, Manonyane Community Council Chairperson Mr. Makhaola Chele, told the Agency that the initial construction has not started but since Monday there has been some work done at the site.
He added that construction is going to be where the original bridge which collapsed in 2020 and not where the temporary bridge is located.
He urged community to be cooperative during the construction and protect construction materials so that the work gets done without any hindrance.
Meanwhile Litenteng bridge collapsed in December 2020 due to heavy rains and the villagers made a temporary structure while awaiting the government to construct the access bridge.
The temporary bridge that was eroded in March 2025 was the second one as the first one collapsed in December 2023 during heavy rains.
The structure was made of available materials such as poles made from trees, cement and corrugated iron sheets.
The construction is being done by the Manonyane Community Council through engagement of local contractors and labourers.
