Maseru, May 28 — The ongoing congestion at Maseru border post due to applications for temporary import permits for local registered vehicles, calls for urgent government intervention.
The call was made by Thaba-Phechela Member of Parliament (MP) Mr. Mohau Hlalele in the National Assembly on Thursday, saying the congestion affects travellers entering and leaving the country.
He urged the government to clarify and advise on what could be done to avoid the congestion, bearing in mind that the deadline for registrations is near.

The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Mrs. Ts’epang Mosena reiterated that the matter was urgent and urged the government to respond as soon as possible.
Meanwhile the South African government earlier announced that SA Revenue Services (SARS) will require all foreign registered vehicles to be declared on SARS Traveller Management System (TMS) prior to them entering or leaving SA, effective next month (June).
Application requirements for this six months temporary import permit include a valid passport, driver’s license and vehicle’s original registration papers.
