MURDER SUSPECT IN POLICE CUSTODY

Mafeteng, March 07 — A 27 year-old man of Ha Lumisi is in police custody following the death of a 26 year-old of Ha Ramohapi on Sunday.

In an interview with the Officer Commanding Mafeteng Police, Senior Superintendent Leabua Shale said the suspect was arrested two days after the incident with a knife in his possession suspected to have been used in this criminal offense.

The Officer Commanding Mafeteng Police said the deceased and the suspect including other Naughty Boys Football Team members were drinking beer at a local shebeen at Ha Ramohapi on Sunday night celebrating their victory against one of football teams from Maseru .

He indicated that the suspect and the deceased had a conflict over an unknown issue which led to a fight whereby the suspect pulled out his knife and stabbed the deceased with one open wound on the chest.

He stated that immediately other team members informed the police about the incident and upon their arrival they took the victim to Mafeteng Regional Hospital where he was declared dead.

He indicated that celebrating victory after working hard is allowed but it turns out to be a mistake when it involves beer drinking hence the need for every group to ensure that after their victory they celebrate without taking alcohol as the majority of such activities ends in such a nature.

Senior Superintendent Shale warned business owners selling beer to abide by regulations guiding their businesses as they clearly stipulate operational hours including closure, saying majority of murder cases are reported after closing hours which is against the law for the shebeens to be operating.

The suspect will appear before the Mafeteng Magistrate Court charged with murder as soon as police investigations are complete.

Murder is one of the common criminal offenses in the district of Mafeteng.
