Quthing, July 31 – At least 2 400 needy households from different councils in the district will receive food assistance during distribution of food grain to be carried out by Quthing Disaster Management office from Monday next week.
This has been disclosed by the District Disaster Management Manager (DDM) Mr. Thabo Letsie at the district disaster management team (DDMT) meeting held at the District Administrator ‘s hall this week
Mr. Letsie highlighted that the food to be distributed to the beneficiaries comprise rice grain donated by India and China, and sorghum grain from the Lesotho government.
He added that the sorghum grain has been purchased from local farmers to boost the country’s agricultural sector, enhance food security and promote economic growth.
The DDM stated that each of the beneficiaries will receive 25kg of rice grain and of sorghum to ensure positive impact of the food support in response to hunger faced by the households.
Presenting a report at the same event, the Food and Nutrition Coordinating Office (FNCO) Nutrition Officer Mrs. ‘Matseko Ts’eole said seven incubators packages for nutrition clubs from Hlokomela Bana project, being implemented by World Vision Lesotho and funded by United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) are available the district Food Management Unit (FMU) Stores.
She pointed out that the incubators are part of the project support to certain nutrition clubs established by the nutrition division at some villages in Tosing and Telle community councils. . .
