Maseru, Feb. 14 — The Minister of Gender, Youth and Social Development says, digital payment is progressing well as 44,112 elderly people now receive their grants through this system (Mpesa and Eco-cash).
Mr. Pitso Lesaoana said this in his statement when talking about the digital method of payment, indicating the above number amounts to 53 percent of the aged.
He said the Ministry has already closed some pay points that include Mabote, Motimposo and Matala amongst others, adding an additional 63 pay points are to be closed.
This he said is because most elderly people who were receiving their money in these pay points are now included in the digital payment system, adding closure will be in March 2025.
