PEACE REIGNS AT MAUTENG

Maseru, Sept.17 — A once tainted by high crime rate because of the murders that resulted from conflicts between rival gangs, Mauteng is now a peaceful place.

This was attested to by a chief of the area, Chief Sanaha Tumaki-Leuta in an interview with the Agency on Wednesday.

He stated that Mauteng is a different place from what it was known for in the past, where people were frequently killed, houses burnt down and people becoming homeless, children left orphaned and the majority displaced because of the conflicts. He indicated that an intervention by the police through the Mofoka Police Station and members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF), working together with the community has resulted in the current peace and stability in the area.

Chief Tumaki-Leuta said the people are now united, adding that they are working together towards a common goal which is to rebuild their area and ensure sustainable peace, stability and development. He pointed out that the people who fled the area because of the conflicts are coming back and rebuilding their homes.

He indicated that life is normal at Mauteng adding that the youth engage in sports especially soccer, adding that they are eager to develop their skills in that area. He further added that women are involved in community development through their various associations which come in handy when help is needed. He said the community is always united in looking after the sick people and the orphaned children adding that no one is alone in that area. . . .
