PM CALMS NATION

Maseru, Oct. 16 — The Prime Minister (PM), Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane has assured the nation that the government will do whatever it takes to maintain peace and stability in the country.

This he said in his statement delivered at Lesotho Television studios on Monday morning.

The PM further said the government will retain the image of the country which has for a long time been tarnished by governments which were overthrown before completing a period of five years after elections.

He warned the nation that the new government, which came into power in October 2022 is faced with the same challenge which has been facing other governments previously for not ruling for five years.

He reminded Basotho that the government came into power to retain the image of the country, restore hope of Basotho as well as to promote economic development and implement long awaited Reforms.

However he said so far there is no progress with regard to Reforms as some Parliamentarians, who are entrusted to ensure that the core issues of reforms are implemented take advantage of some sections of the Constitutional Law which need to be reviewed for implementation of Reforms.

He said such Parliamentarians do that to serve their own interests because they want power, assuring the nation that the government will ensure that reforms are implemented.

RFP won 56 constituencies with no Proportional Seat (PR) in the past general elections and had to form a coalition government with Alliance of Democrats and Movement for Economic Change (MEC) which won two constituencies with three PR seats and one constituency with three PR seats respectively.
