MASERU — Princess Senate Mohato Seeiso has urged all, particularly the youth to support the school donation drive under ‘SHOESHOE EA MOSHOESHOE Foundation.’
She said this when launching the drive at Pioneer Mall on Friday with the objective to gather as many school items as possible to be able to extend support to needy learners.
She explained that the foundation values and principles are aligned to those of Morena Moshoeshoe l, who was the founder of the nation and known for wisdom, a heart that forgives to promote unity and peace within the nation.
She added that as the journey beyond bicentennial (2024) continues, the need for youth to stand and show leadership is vital, hence the drive.
Similarly, UNFPA Representative John Kennedy Mosoti said supporting the marginalised is their mantra, stating that when the Princess comes out and shows where her heart belongs, UNFPA will not stand behind but be part of a shared vision.
He added that some learners, particularly needy young girls are unable to further their studies due to lack sanitary towels.
“We affirm our support to the programme so that not only do we supply products but we supply relevant information and specific needs to learners,” he said.
Similarly, Vodacom Foundation, Pinkie Mokoena applauded the Princess for the initiative, pledging their support to make sure that the marginalised learners are able to complete their studies and access opportunities for growth and development of Lesotho.
On behalf of Pioneer Mall, Mr. Ntlatlapa Mosae said the presence of the Princess is felt in Lesotho and the launch of the drive is a step in the right direction to motivate needy learners to attend school.
He appealed to tenants and customers to support the drive by placing school items in the drive boxes placed within the mall. “This is the first mall in Lesotho that has been introduced through partnership by thousand of local partners,”he said.
The climax of the event was pledges and donations given to the Princess by different stakeholders, with Pioneer Mall having presented M20.000.00 cheque, Chinese Embassy pledged M30.000.00 cheque while Alliance gave M5000.00. Other donations included stationery and sanitary towels.
The school drive launch comes after the launch of a similar drive by the Princess in Maseru Mall on Tuesday this week. It is anticipated that ‘SHOESHOE EA MOSHOESHOE Foundation’ will also be launched officially later on.
