PUBLIC WORKS PERFORMANCE QUESTIONED

Maseru, Aug. 27– The Senate’s Government Assurances Committee has raised concerns over the performance of the Ministry of Works and Public Transport over road construction and rehabilitation.

This comes after the committee’s meeting with the ministry and Roads Directorate to get a brief on Status of the Roads Construction that were budgeted for 2023/2024 Financial, which happened not to be completed due to numerous reasons that were tabled by the minister.

The Chairperson of the Committee Dr. Thabiso Lebese said some of the reasons why the ministry does not fulfil its mandate is failure to comply to their budget, and awarding tenders to unqualified contractors, adding that Ministry’s input on the Budget estimates does not reflect the true picture of planned activities because what appears budgeted for in 2023 appears in 2024 budget estimates. . .
