QUTHING PREPARES FOR NATIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY FORUM

Quthing, June 25 —  Quthing Heads of departments and representatives of various public groups gathered at the District Administrator’s hall for a half-day sensitization meeting on public service performance and accountability on Thursday.

The session, organized by the Office of the District Administrator, was part of preparations for the upcoming three-day National Dialogue and Accountability Summit scheduled to start Wednesday next week.

Speaking at the same event, District Administrator Mr. Bonang Tlali urged collaboration between public and private sectors to strengthen service delivery and stimulate local economic growth.

He emphasized that unity among stakeholders is vital for development of the district.

From the Prime Minister’s Office, Ms. Lerato Moeketsi, Director of Public Service Effectiveness, explained that the meeting followed last week government leadership forums aimed at reinforcing governance, transparency, and accountability.

Ms. Moeketsi noted that the government is working to coordinate effective service delivery across all sectors, addressing long-standing challenges such as joint planning, decentralization of powers and funds to local level and fair distribution of services, and resources.

She highlighted that the next week’s forum will focus on direct engagement between government, citizens, and stakeholders.

She added that district representatives will participate in the national forum through digital platforms, enabling citizens and non-governmental organizations to ask questions and provide feedback directly to leaders.

Representing traditional leadership at the event, Chief Toka Letsie welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that it will resolve service delivery challenges from local to central levels.

He applauded the government’s effort to make Lesotho a better place.

Business leader Mr. Teboho Mokau raised concerns about underutilized local resources such as clean water, fertile land, and stones.

He stressed that effective collaboration and resource management could drive national development if stakeholders focus on progress rather than power struggles.

Similar sensitization meetings have been held in other districts since Wednesday, led by teams from the Prime Minister’s Office.

These meetings will continue until Friday, after which preparations will shift to the National Accountability Dialogues at the Manthabiseng Convention Centre.

Citizens across all 10 districts will be able to participate through organized technology platforms in their respective districts.
