SNOWFALL PARALYZES QACHA’SNEK: STREETS DESERTED, VENDORS SHUT, POWER OUTAGES REPORTED

Qacha’s Nek, June. 10 — As forecast by the Lesotho Meteorological Services (LMS), Qacha’s Nek has been blanketed in snow since the early hours of Tuesday, with Sehlabathebe and Qhoalinyane hit hardest by the heavy accumulation.

The cold front  brought biting temperatures that emptied streets and silenced businesses.

Only a few  vehicles ventured out as snow made major roads impassable.

A5 road from Ha Mosi to Semonkong and Maseru is currently inaccessible as snow has closed Thaba-Putsoa, while the A4 route through Lebelonyane is also blocked.

The LMS had issued a weather advisory warning of extreme cold, high winds, and a 60 percent chance of widespread rain and snow across highland areas. . . .
