Berea, Aug. 18 – Farmers and nutrition club members from five sub-centres and Mapoteng Agribusiness have attended a two-day training on the Smallholder Horticulture Empowerment Promotion (SHEP) approach at the Resource Centre in Mapoteng from Thursday.
The training, led by Ms. Lerato Tšoanamatsie and Mrs. Mampho Malefane from the Ministry of Agriculture food security and nutrition, focused on equipping smallholder farmers with market-driven knowledge to enhance their productivity and income.
The key message was the importance of thinking like marketers before starting production.
In an interview with the Area Technical Nutritionist Ms. Ntefeleng Tšolo, she explained that the training shared essential business skills such as proper pricing, understanding consumer expectations, hygiene standards, and techniques for visually representing products through branding and packaging.
“Knowledge of valuable production skills such as branding and quality can help a person remain within the right range of pricing,” she said. . . .
