Mohale’s Hoek, Jan. 04 — Various stakeholders are attending a 5-day workshop aimed at validating by-laws, before being endorsed by Councils who will be acting as custodians.
The District Coordinator from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Charles Eti Matlabe stated that by-laws are designed to protect access and utilization of communally created assets, which officers have been overseeing under the Component 3 of the Improving Adaptive Capacity Of Vulnerable and Food Insecure Populations in Lesotho, (IACOV), and pleaded with Cooperatives to work jointly with Councils for the sustainability of the projects within various community councils.
On the other hand, the Ministry’s legal officer Adv. Limpho Sekete highlighted the significance of establishing by-laws prior to the implementation, instead of halfway into the projects, to avoid unnecessary conflicts, urging communities to establish Conflict Management Teams to resolve issues should there be any. . .
