Maseru, Apr. 06 – Traffic is expected to increase at Maseru border post starting today (Thursday) as Basotho are expected to come into the country for Easter holidays.
This was said by Maseru Bridge Immigration Manager Mrs. Bertha Piletso in an interview with the Agency.
Mrs. Piletso said they are yet to see influx of people crossing the border into the country after COVID-19 and the number is expected to increase more than last year.
She added that traffic for both pedestrians and vehicles increases around 06:00 a.m and 22:00 p.m, saying they have increased staff who work on shifts.
Asked if Basotho had passports, she indicated that so far a few did not have documents but they allowed them to enter into the country.
She further said they are faced with a challenge of women who had children while in South Africa and do not have documents for such children because it is their first time coming back
home.
Meanwhile the Ministry of local Government and Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police released the Easter schedule for border posts.
The schedule indicates that Sani Pass will open at 06:00 a.m to 20:00 p.m from April 05 to 06, Caledonspoort 06:00 to 00:00 from April 06 to 10, Monots’a 08:00 to 18:00 from April 06 to 07 and 10 to 11, Ficksburg and Maseru bridges 24 hours, Peka Bridge 08:00 to 18:00 from April 05 to 06 and 10 to 11, Van Royeen’s Gate 24 hours on April 06 and 06:00 to 00:00 on April 10, Makhaleng 08:00 to 16:00 , Tele Bridge 06:00 to 22:00, Qacha’s Nek Gate 06:00 to 22:00 from April 05 to 06 and the schedule for Moshoeshoe I International Airport has not changed as it remains at 06:00 to 18:00 p.m.
