UNIK WORKERS DOWN TOOLS

Maseru, Apr.17– About 100 workers under UNIK Construction Engineering currently working at the construction or upgrade of Katse Village under Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) have on Monday morning engaged in an indefinite strike.

In November 2021 UNIK Construction Engineering commenced the construction after being awarded a contract of about M131 million by LHDA and it was expected that the work would be completed in April 2023.

Speaking in an interview, Construction, Mining, Quarrying and Allied Workers Union (CMQ) Secretary General Mr. Robert Mokhahlane confirmed that the workers have from today (Monday) downed tools indefinitely following the employer’s failure to negotiate with the workers on their proposed 15 percent increment…..
