Maseru, July. 16 -– A groundbreaking water transfer project between Lesotho and Botswana is poised to address severe water scarcity issues in the region, while also stimulating economic growth and poverty eradication.
The proposed dam on the Makhaleng River will transfer 150 million cubic meters (MCM) of water per annum to Botswana and 50 MCM to Lesotho and South Africa equally.
This was revealed during the tour by various speakers representing stakeholders in the upcoming project at Malea-lea on Wednesday.





The Acting Minister of Energy, Mr. Mohlomi Moleko, highlighted that the project’s objectives are to promote sustainable socio-economic development in Lesotho, Botswana, and South Africa through climate-resilient water resource infrastructure development.
President of Botswana, Advocate Duma Boko, pointed out that the transfer of water to Botswana will not only tackle water scarcity but also drive economic growth and development.
Adv. Duma said with this project, the region is set to experience a new era of water security and sustainable development. . .
