Maseru, Apr. 15 — The African Union Commission (AUC), the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC), together with International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) on Friday launched a consortium on children on the move and child labour in Maseru.
According to the IOM statement, this marks a key step in Africa’s efforts to protect its most vulnerable population, saying children will eventually enhance the protection of children in vulnerable situations.
“This meeting identified key priority areas and developed an action plan for implementation. While participation of esteemed organisations and government representatives underscored the significance of this initiative,’ the organisations said in a statement.
The Consortium’s deliberations did not only calibrate operational modalities but also exchanged crucial technical insights to fine-tune proposals aimed at enhancing the protection of children in vulnerable situations.
