DCEO TAKES ANTI-CORRUPTION FIGHT TO QACHA’S NEK

Qacha’s Nek, Feb. 04 — The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO), in line with its mandate to combat corruption in both the public and private sectors, has convened an anti-corruption sensitisation workshop for civil servants and key stakeholders in Qacha’s Nek.

The workshop, which runs from Tuesday to Thursday, is structured to engage different groups. Civil servants and private sector representatives were attending sessions over the first two days, while Thursday’s programme is dedicated to Heads of Departments (HODs).

In an interview with the Agency, DCEO Chief Public Education Officer, Khauhelo Maliehe, said the primary objective of the workshop was to remind public officials of their duty to serve with integrity.

She explained that participants were being educated on the various forms of corruption, how to identify them, and the importance of reporting corrupt practices.

Ms. Maliehe added that the workshop also serves to publicise the DCEO regional office based in Mohale’s Hoek, which serves the southern districts from Mafeteng to Qacha’s Nek. The regional office was officially launched on November 20 last year.

She noted that a strong emphasis was placed on ethical conduct among participants and that prevention was a critical tool in the fight against corruption.

“Good conduct plays a major role in preventing corruption. When officials abide by laws and ethical principles, they are less likely to be tempted or fall victim to corrupt practices,” she said.

Ms. Maliehe expressed satisfaction with the level of engagement shown by participants. “So far, we have interacted with open-minded participants who are eager to learn and willing to work with the DCEO,” she added.

Meanwhile, District Anti-Corruption Committee (DACC) Chairperson Tankisang Mapuru welcomed the initiative, noting that the workshop strengthens anti-corruption efforts at the district level.

“This training reinforces the message I have constantly shared with public officers. It helps to clear misconceptions, restore dignity to public service, and confirms the guidance we have been providing,” Mapuru said.

He added that participants demonstrated pride in the exercise and showed a clear understanding of the issues discussed. According to Mapuru, the training helped empower participants, renewed their love for their jobs and country, and encouraged them to serve with honesty, integrity, and loyalty. . .
