LDF CONTINGENT IN MOZAMBIQUE ROTATES

Maseru, Oct.13 — Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) will soon send the third contingent to Mozambique under the umbrella of Southern African Development Community Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) to assist the Mozambican government on the ongoing insurgency in Cabo Delgado.

The first contingent was sent in August 2021 and consequently took part in pro-government offensives from then.

Addressing the contingent, LDF Commander Lieutenant General Mojalefa Letsoela said that the situation on the ground does not change according to the mind-set of authorities saying that the situation now is still volatile, unpredictable, and too uncertain because they meet people who are too irregular and have their own define course.

“They demand us energy, they demand us to be vigilant, they demand us to look at the horizon and not take issues as politically impeccable. If we deal too much with narratives instead of what is on the ground, we will have surprises like we have had,” he said.

He said that LDF is rotating on the third phase of the operation and it has been restricted, saying that on the transition phase, they should not compromise themselves. We are in transition we observe conventions while maintaining a robust position”.
