Maseru, May 13 — The Government of Lesotho, in collaboration with the private sector, is continuing efforts to market the country’s tourism sector at the ongoing Africa Tourism Indaba currently taking place in Durban, South Africa.
Speaking in an interview, the Marketing Officer at the Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC), Mr. Phomolo Lebitsa, said Lesotho is among the countries participating in the prestigious tourism exhibition to promote the country’s tourism products and services to the international market.
Mr. Lebitsa said the exhibition has so far yielded positive results, noting that many visitors have shown strong interest in Lesotho’s tourism offerings, particularly Afriski Mountain Resort as the winter season approaches.
He indicated that based on the level of interest from international buyers and tourism stakeholders, Lesotho could record a significant increase in tourist arrivals this year from various countries.
He further explained that part of their marketing campaign focuses on promoting Lesotho’s upcoming 60th Independence celebrations, encouraging international tourists to visit the country and take part in activities lined up to commemorate the milestone.
Among the key attractions being promoted are the Maletsunyane Braai Festival, the Roof of Africa event, Lecholi Mountain Drive and Braai, as well as other cultural and adventure tourism experiences that continue to position Lesotho as a unique destination in the region.
Africa’s Travel Indaba, commonly known as the Durban Tourism Indaba, is one of the continent’s largest tourism marketing events, bringing together tourism boards, travel agencies, investors, buyers and media practitioners from across the world.
The annual exhibition provides African countries with an opportunity to showcase their tourism potential, attract investment, build partnerships and increase international tourist arrivals.
For countries like Lesotho, participation in the Indaba is considered important as it provides exposure to global tourism markets and helps strengthen the country’s visibility as a destination for adventure, cultural and eco-tourism.
The platform also creates networking opportunities for local tourism operators and contributes to economic growth through increased tourism revenue and job creation.
The 2026 Africa’s Travel Indaba officially started on May 11, with the Business Opportunity Networking Day (BONDay), while the main trade exhibition is running from May 12 to 14, 2026 in Durban, South Africa. The event will officially end on May 14, 2026
