MAN DEAD IN SUSPECTED MOB JUSTICE INCIDENT

Berea, February 10 — A 34 year-old man from Ha Rachere at Chief Lekoro Rachere’s village in Mapoteng was found dead on Saturday morning in an incident suspected to be linked to mob justice.

According to Senior Inspector Relebohile Mahula, police received a report from a villager who alerted them to the presence of a body in the area. Police responded to the scene and discovered the deceased with visible wounds.

Police suspect that the man had been accused of stealing grocery items from a neighbour’s house.

It is alleged that members of the community went to his home and assaulted him, resulting in his death. The deceased was found with whip marks all over his body.

Senior Inspector Mahula expressed concern over the incident, noting that similar cases of mob justice-related killings had been reported in Mapoteng in recent months.

He urged communities to refrain from taking law into their own hands and instead report suspected criminal activities to the police.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
