Maseru, Nov. 27 – The Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Dr. Retsélisitsoe Matlanyane presented the 2024/25 budget midterm review during a joint sitting in the National Assembly on Wednesday.
The budget which was previously postponed due to macro-external factors saw issues of economy, unemployment, mining and manufacturing, health and education amongst others becoming highlights of the Minister’s presentation.
Talking about unemployment, the Minister who had earlier moved motion 156 of the midterm budget, stated even though there is an elevated unemployment rate, this midterm celebrates signs of promise due to the strategic experience of 200 years coupled with the ongoing Lesotho Highlands Development Project (LHDP) Phase II.
She added that in as far as economy is concerned, the domestic economy is likely to improve by 2.2 percent in 2024 due to the above project as well as Millennium Challenge Compact (MCC) ll that has invested more in agriculture. However, she said the elevated food prices posing a risk to inflation as it is to increase by 6.5 inflation rate in 2024 means Lesotho as part of the globe must position itself in a resilient manner. . .
