Berea, Feb 28 — Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship Affairs, Home Affairs and Police Mr. Lebona Lephema has urged Basotho living in both Lesotho and South Africa to stand united and not to allow Mohokare River to divide them.
Minister Home Affairs made the remarks on Friday during the Cross Border Crime Prevention Forum (CBCPF) staged at Teyateyaneng between Lesotho and South African counterparts.
Mr. Lebona also emphasised that both counterparts should strive for unity because both nations share the same values and relationships, moreover he highlighted that such cross-border meetings offer a platform to their shared vision.
He stressed a need to extend their meeting to places such as Bloemfontein so that they can adapt to their vision of building a mutual relationship, highlighting that together they can win the battle against human trafficking and other elements of crime.
Mr. Lebona urged the cross-border members not to give up because they are doing the create job, also citing that people’s movement can be easy in both countries to develop a shared vision. “We both need one another, hence the need to unite in order to transform people’s way of living and the economy respectively,” he said.
He also emphasized the need to allow free movement for Basotho at the borders, highlighting that negotiations are at the advanced stage regarding the issue with South African authorities and the cross-border meetings have already set a pace.
“As residents of both nations, we can work and transform our countries together to win the battle against stock theft and other issues”, he added. . .
