Maseru, Nov. 05 — Members of Parliament (MPs) undergone training on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) during the sitting of the House on Tuesday.
The training, which was conducted by medical doctors, followed the motion which proposes the amendment of the Children’s Protection Act of 2011.
Addressing MPs, the Speaker of Parliament Mr. Tlohang Sekhamane said medical doctors were called to sensitise Parliamentarians about medical issues affecting LGBTI people so that they could have a clear picture when amending some clauses within the Children’s Protection Act.
He indicated that the motion proposes that in clause 4 after sub clause 4 A (2), (b), a new sub clause (c) should be added which provides that transgender and intersex children should be allowed gender affirmation and medical procedures and healthcare and that their legal documents be changed to align with their new gender identity. . .
