Maseru, Aug. 13 – Following announcement of digital payments for the elderly pension by the Ministry of Social Development, registrations with mobile network operators for the said has been running smoothly since it commencement.
This was said by Ministry’s Public Relations Manager Mrs. Mpho Makhetha in an interview with the Agency.
Mrs. Makhetha said registrations, which commenced last week Monday, took place on pay dates at pay points to ensure that the process becomes convenient for elderly people.
However, she said they were faced with a challenge of some elderly people who claimed that they do not know how to use mobile phones and are scared that their money will get lost.
She therefore said they ensured that they explained and stated the advantages of getting payments digitally through M-pesa and Ecocash, however clarifying that this is a choice model initiative. . .
