POULTRY FARMERS PETITION GOVERNMENT

Maseru, Dec. 08 — Poultry farmers, distributors and suppliers presented their petition to the Prime Minister (PM) on Friday requesting the government to open borders for import of poultry products.

In their letter read by the Chairperson of concerned poultry farmers, distributors, and suppliers Mrs. Mantsane Rantekoa said ban of poultry products from South Africa (SA) into the country has negatively affected lives of Basotho as many have lost jobs, businesses and ability to get hatching eggs, chicks and chicken.

She added that people who are affected now have depression, saying lack of jobs could lead to criminal activities due to poverty, emphasising that this has also affected the economy of Lesotho.

She further said most people consume chicken as it is not only cheap but medically recommended and demand is expected to increase during Christmas holidays. . .
