PRIVATE VEHICLE USED ILLEGALLY FOR PASSENGERS’ LANDS DRIVER IN PRISON

Qacha’s Nek, Dec.17— Molefe Tlali (34) of Ha Rants’etse, Koro-koro, has been sentenced by Senior Resident Magistrate Ts’eliso Bale of the Qacha’s Nek Magistrate’s Court to a M1,500 fine or one year and three months’ jail-term.

He was convicted on three counts of operating a private vehicle as public transport without the required permits. Tlali was fined M500 per count, with all sentences ordered to run concurrently. He was jailed after failing to pay the fines.

In delivering judgment, Senior Resident Magistrate Bale noted that Tlali was a first-time offender and had saved the court’s time by pleading guilty but emphasized that operating a private vehicle as public transport without the necessary permits endangers public safety and undermines the law…
