Maseru, Sept. 05 — The World Health Organization (WHO) has described suicide as one of the most devastating and preventable tragedies of our time, a crisis claiming far too many young lives.
Across the globe and here in Lesotho, suicide ranks among the leading causes of death for young people, cutting futures short and leaving families and communities in deep grief.
According to WHO, progress in reducing suicide mortality remains far too slow to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of cutting suicide rates by one‑third by 2030.
For Lesotho, the challenge is even more pressing. The country records one of the highest suicide rates per capita in the world, with women disproportionately affected, a rare and troubling reversal of global trends.
