Quthing, Nov. 22 — The Global Environment Facility small Grants Programme (GEF SGP) has awarded grants to a tune of more than M2,5 million to community based organizations (CBO) from Tosing Community Council at an event held at a local hotel in Moyeni this week.
The beneficiaries of the GEF SGP awarded the grants through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are already engaged in various projects that contribute in environment management and promotion of the Great Green Wall initiative adopted by (African Union).
The Great Green Wall initiative entails among others to hold back desertification by planting trees, promotion of water and soil conservation activities, biodiversity greenery protection and improving greenland and productive landscape.
The grants have been awarded to five CBOs from Sebapala Integrated Watershed Management Catchment project area in Tosing Community Council to strengthen activities being carried out by the community for environment management.
