Maseru, Jan. 12 — As part of efforts to mitigate food insecurity especially in vulnerable households, the District Disaster Management Team (DDMT) is currently embarking on food distribution.
This was disclosed by District Disaster Officer, Ms. Ntsetsana Chaake who said the distribution started in December in some of the Maseru City Council wards which had 400 beneficiaries per ward.
She said from Monday, January 12 they will be distributing to community councils where she said 100 people per Electoral Division will get the food parcels.
She said for those who got in December, they received 50kg maize and 50kg sorghum since they might run short, therefore saying that the distribution which starts this week in community councils, beneficiaries will get 50kg maize and 25kg sorghum per person.
She added that for Maseru City Council about 15,400 people benefited from this saying in community councils they will cover about 10,400 people.
Meanwhile, the Lesotho Vulnerability Assessment (LVAC) 2025 report highlights that 524,950 people are expected to be food insecure in the 2025/2026 consumption year, a decrease of 25 percent from the previous year.
