EFFORTS TO FIGHT AGAINST STOCKTHEFT SHOULD BE INTENSIFIED

Mokhotlong, Jan.13 — There is a need for establishment of police satellites in villages near the Lesotho and South Africa boundary to enhance efforts to prevent stock theft from taking place in both countries.

The District Commanding Officer for Mokhotlong Police, Senior Superintendent Leabua Shale said this in an interview on Monday regarding a high rate at which stock theft cases are being reported in the district.

He said last night Lets’eng police received a report from a herder that 320 sheep and 40 donkeys he tended were stolen at a cattle post and the police together with the livestock followed and recovered them all.

Senior Superintendent Shale further said  police satellites as well as intensifying community training on policing will help combat the escalating crime in the district.

He appealed to the community to keep reporting crime, especially stock theft and work jointly with the police to prevent it.
