FOSO CHIEF CALLS FOR YOUTH EMPLOYMENT AT STORAGE

Maseru, Dec. 22 — The Area Chief of Ha Foso, Mr. Masupha Majara says he is looking forward to employment of youth residing at his village, at the new Agricultural Storage and Logistic Infrastructure, which was handed over to the government a few days ago.

Mr. Majara told the Agency in an interview that while the storage is intended to store food grains to combat hunger and poverty, he believes it will also address high unemployment rate.

“The storage will not only address unemployment among youth but crime and drug abuse, which are main challenges facing the village,” he added.

He therefore called on the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition to consider Foso residents and provide a list of the number of people they may need to work at the facility regardless of gender.

“I always urge the local business community and the government to employ my people since Foso is developing significantly,” he said.

One of the villagers, Mr. Ntoa Tente said residents should be given first priority at local projects but that is not always the case, saying they had learnt that residents were still unemployed during the construction of the food storage, expressing hope that the government will consider them this time.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture Food Security and Nutrition, Mr. Thabo Mofosi earlier at the handing over ceremony revealed that the Ministry intends to hire youth at the facility who will undergo training and utilize acquired skills to ensure food is stored safely and that the facility is run effectively.

The Agricultural Storage and Logistic Infrastructure, which is worth M150 Million was donated by the People’s Republic of China to the Lesotho government.
